In short
Bring every report you have: scans with their CD, endoscopy and biopsy reports, blood tests, discharge cards and a list of your current medicines.
At the visit Dr Harsh Shah takes your history, examines you and reads the reports with you, before any treatment plan is discussed.
The consultation fee at the Gota OPD is Rs 1,500. Call +91 63555 64601 to book a time, especially if you are travelling from outside Ahmedabad.
Bring every report you have, even old ones and even ones you think are not important. A missing scan is the most common reason a first visit cannot end with a clear next step.
Put the reports in date order, oldest first, in one folder. Keep scan CDs in the same folder. If there are many papers, write a one-page list of dates: when the symptoms began, when each test was done, and any treatment already given.
If a report is missing, still come. The visit can plan which tests are needed, and in what order.
Dr Harsh Shah sees you himself. He asks about your symptoms and your health, examines you, and then goes through every report and scan with you.
He explains what the reports show, and whether an operation is possible. If more tests are needed first, he says which ones and why. If chemotherapy or radiation should come before any operation, he plans it with the medical and radiation oncologists. Treatment decisions are made after this examination and review, not over the phone.
| Report | Why the surgeon needs it | If you do not have it |
|---|---|---|
| CT, MRI or PET-CT with CD | Shows where the tumour is and whether it has spread | Come anyway; the scan can be planned at the visit |
| Endoscopy or colonoscopy report | Shows the growth from inside and where the biopsy was taken | Bring whatever summary you were given |
| Biopsy report | Confirms what kind of growth it is | The visit decides whether a biopsy is needed and how |
| Blood tests | Fitness for treatment, and tumour markers to compare later | They can be done after the visit |
| Medicine list | Some medicines must be stopped or changed before an operation | Bring the strips or bottles themselves |
Write your questions down before the visit. It is easy to forget them in the room.
The consultation fee at the Gota OPD is Rs 1,500. Call to book a time before you come.
The OPD is at Shah's Gastro, Cancer & Robotic Surgery Centre, Gota, on the S G Highway in Ahmedabad. Operations are done at Apollo Hospital, Bhat, Gandhinagar. If an operation is planned and you have health insurance, ask about cashless approval; read cashless treatment for cancer surgery before you come.
Coming from another town or state? Call before you travel, so the visit can be planned around your reports and, if needed, the tests can be done on the same trip.
Second opinions are welcome. Bring the plan you were given at the other hospital, with every report and scan behind it. A second opinion often confirms the plan you already have, and that is a useful answer too.
The consultation fee at the Gota OPD is Rs 1,500. Call +91 63555 64601 to book a time.
No referral is needed to book. If your family doctor or another specialist has written a note, bring it with your reports.
Come anyway. Part of the first visit is deciding which tests are still needed, including whether and how a biopsy should be done.
Yes. A family member is welcome, and it helps to have someone take notes.

Call to book a time at the Gota OPD. You may share your reports on WhatsApp before the visit, so they are already read when you arrive; the treatment decision is made at the consultation, after examination.
