The EX-MACHYNA trial demonstrates the potential of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) combined with deep learning for automatic tissue recognition during surgery. In this prospective bi-center study, HSI achieved high accuracy for skin (100%) and liver (97%) identification. The technology offers significant promise for enhancing intraoperative precision and safety. However, further research is required to fully quantify its clinical value. Incorporating HSI in surgical practices could improve outcomes through more accurate tissue differentiation.
