A recent multicenter study compared induction immunochemotherapy (iIC) and chemotherapy (iC) in patients with initially unresectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (iuESCC). Results showed a significantly higher surgical conversion rate for iIC (84.7% vs. 49.7%, P < 0.001). Moreover, iIC improved overall survival, with pathological complete response rates of 22% compared to 5.1% for iC (P = 0.001). These findings suggest that iIC may be a superior approach for achieving better surgical outcomes and long-term survival in iuESCC patients.
