Many people switch to non-tobacco products (NTP) thinking they’re safer. But research shows that NTP use may increase cancer risk. A large study revealed that people who use NTP have a higher chance of developing oral, esophageal, and pharyngeal cancers.
The study reviewed over 49 other studies with more than 132,000 participants. NTP users were five times more likely to get oral cancer and three times more likely to develop esophageal cancer. The findings also linked NTP to oral health problems that can turn cancerous if left untreated.
If you or someone you know uses NTP, it’s a good idea to learn about the risks and consult a healthcare provider. Awareness, education, and quitting harmful habits can go a long way in protecting your health.
