Liver cancer is a serious disease. A new study found that alcohol makes liver cancer more likely in people with hepatitis B or C. Researchers looked at data from 28 studies, covering over 42,000 people.
They found that drinking alcohol raises the risk of liver cancer significantly. People with hepatitis B who drank alcohol had a 14 times higher risk. For those with hepatitis C, the risk was 42 times higher. If someone had both hepatitis B and C, their risk of liver cancer was 32 times higher.
These findings show that avoiding alcohol is important for people with hepatitis. Getting vaccinated against hepatitis B and seeking treatment for hepatitis C can also help prevent liver cancer. Taking care of your liver health can save lives.
