People with obesity face a higher chance of getting rectal cancer. Some worry that their weight might make surgery harder or more risky. A new study brings some relief.
Doctors looked at many research papers from 2014 to 2024. They studied 963 patients without obesity and 371 with obesity, all having robotic rectal cancer surgery. They found that surgery took a little longer for people with obesity. But the chance of problems after surgery was the same in both groups.
Things like hospital stay, return to normal life, and other issues showed no major difference.
So, robotic surgery works just as well for people with obesity. This is good news for patients looking for safe treatment options.
